Mad props, or in this case, turbinesWednesday, February 07, 2007
Okay, so it seems that my talented friend and prolific blogger Mr. Wilber has called me out, as the young folks say, to be more like him and write blogs at any time from any place, so Bob I'm writing this from seat 23D onboard a 757 bound for LAX and the Winternationals.

Actually, I just said all that so that I can give BW equal time since he has been so gracious to me and Kalitta Motorsports in the Team CSK blog lately and we sincerely thank him for that. The fact of the matter is that I am writing this on my phone somewhere high above somewhere (in non-transmit mode, Mr. FAA man...) and a very tiny keypad (and I'm hoping my buddy and mad anagramist editor Mr. Burgess will fix my flaws), but I wanted to make sure I got some thoughts recorded before this big grey speckled bird finishes its five-hour flight. The two gentlemen seated in the row in front of me just finished a lengthy discussion about the finer points of American vs. European auto racing and then about speed vs. acceleration.

I listened intently agreeing and disagreeing in silence with an occasional smug smirk crossing my face, and then the cool part happened. One of the men, evidently recognizing the Kalitta logo on my shirt and cap from when we were seated back in Detroit, stopped the conversation and turned back to me and said, "We're talking about turtles racing against rabbits compared to what this guys is used to. He works for Connie (expletive) Kalitta for crying out loud."

I chuckled and then after just a bit of prodding began telling them the staggering statistics of a modern day nitro car. I have to say that I think I just made two new drag racing fans and I certainly enjoyed running them through the high performance bullet points of NHRA drag racing in 2007. A

nd after my impromptu lecture I realized this with as much clarity one can attain at this height and amount of turbulence: Man, I'm glad I'm heading to Pomona again! So Wilbs, have you ever written a blog from 35,000 feet? (Don't answer that; you probably have. At least twice!) But have you done it on a keypad smaller than an air sickness bag? Of course, I won't hit send on this until we are safely in Los Angeles. I don't need Doug or Conrad reading this and reminding me of federal flight regulations.

See you on the ground and at the races!
