Ginger and I in our Flintstones Halloween costumes

Hey race fans! While everyone was out in California wrapping up the season, I’ve been staying really busy here in North Carolina. I’d like to send my congrats out to all the recently crowned world champions. I hope I’m back out there racing with you guys next year!

I wanted to show you guys this picture from Halloween. Ginger and I went out and bought Flintstones costumes. I was Bamm-Bamm. I decided that fit me pretty well. Ginger was beautiful as Betty Rubble. She wasn’t too excited about the costume but I thought we looked good! The kids that came by our house thought we were funny. Our friends Woodson and Clay came over and hung out but we skipped the trick-or-treating!

B.R.A.K.E.S. is moving forward with a lot of different things right now. As some of you may know, last year we were asked by SPEED’s hit TV show PINKS All Out to be the official public service message for the show. Last year we were at-track for the zMAX taping and did some other stuff with the show, like asking the racers to put B.R.A.K.E.S. stickers on their cars and playing PSA announcements at the tapings. We’re sitting down with them in the offseason to plan what more we can do with PINKS in 2010. We now have a B.R.A.K.E.S. page on their new My SPEED online community, check that out and sign up so you join as a friend of B.R.A.K.E.S.!

Since there are going to be two NHRA races in Charlotte next year, we want to plan a B.R.A.K.E.S. fundraiser around the March race. We’ve been throwing around ideas for what type of fundraiser we want to do and we’ll start planning that soon. Last weekend we had our last driving school of the year. Throughout 2009 we’ve put over 500 teens and their parents through the Teen Pro-Active Driving School. We’ve had a lot of great feedback and we feel like we’re doing what we can to make teen drivers safer behind the wheel.

A few weekends ago we had our second car show out in California at Chet Herbert Cams. It went really well. We had a bunch of old, cacklefest cars. Ron Johnson brought out the replica of my dad’s old car. We auctioned off the opportunity to sit in the cars when they fired the motors to raise some money for B.R.A.K.E.S. We’ll probably have another car show out at the California shop next spring or summer so stay tuned!

Since the Holidays are coming up, we’re doing a special “Drive for Donations” program. If you want to help by passing the word along or donating, just visit the B.R.A.K.E.S. website. You can also make a donation in someone else’s name as a Christmas present for your friends and family!

Speaking of the Holidays, Doug Herbert Performance will be having some specials for Christmas for the racer on your shopping list. We know how much people like to shop on Black Friday so we’ll be rolling out some special deals for the Friday after Thanksgiving. Visit the Doug Herbert Performance Web site to sign up for our newsletter, which will have exclusive offers for the Holidays.

Until next time …
