This is the first time we have had a blog since we have sat out and came back to compete at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, and we had mixed results.
First, it was good to get out there and compete against the best NHRA Pro Stock drivers in the world. We had been off for a long time, so we pretty much had a mini training camp testing in St Louis (I thought that I was done with those mini training camp days!). A lot of the guys were sore, to include me, so it was good to get out there and get back in shape before we competed in Indy.
The event was a good race for us. The good thing about it was that we made five runs down the quarter mile! Even though we did not qualify we learned a lot about our Chevy Cobalt, as far as our performance is concerned.
Obviously, we can’t discount what our engine program did at Indy. Even though our team did not qualify, Richie Stevens, Kenny Koretsky’s team qualified well, and that always makes me feel good! If I could have made a wish, it would have been that I would have qualified, and we would have met each other in the final round, with me winning of course! We’ll just have to save that for another time! (LOLOL)
We also took some new personnel that I think will help us in the near future. I look forward to going out and competing again in Charlotte. I spent a lot of time there when I played for the Hornets, and it will be good to see some old friends. We also have a tremendous week ahead of us and a lot of things that we have to get done.
Jimmy and I are back at the shop now working pretty hard on our engines to get ready for Charlotte. We will probably be testing Monday at Emerald Coast before we leave. We also have a Race for Achievement program scheduled for Wednesday; so, again, it is going to be a very, very busy week for us. Hopefully, we can put a cap on it by qualifying and going to the finals.
My son Kaison’s birthday is this Friday, and he and Keelan have their very first football games of the season on Saturday. I am looking forward to relaxing a little bit and watching some youth football. I have been kind of spoiled these past couple of years, because both Keelan and Kaison’s teams have made it to the Super Bowl the last two years, and they both won it all last year. The competition this weekend is going to be stiff, and they know that they have to bring their A-game when they step on the field. Kinda like NHRA Pro Stock!
