Hey everyone, BB here again with a quick Mother's Day weekend blog.

As you might know one of my good friends, Doug Herbert, hosts an annual car show at his parts warehouse/race shop in Lincolnton on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. He's been doing this since 1992 and it's grown into being quite an event. He always starts up his Top Fuel dragster at noon to the delight of the crowd and with hundreds of show cars on the property it's a great way to spend a Saturday.

So anyway I made a hot lap up to Lincolnton today, about 27 miles, to see what was going on and check on the progress of Doug's Land Speed car that's currently under construction. In case you don't know Doug, with the help of some very talented people, is building a car to go after the current piston-powered land speed record which is currently held by Al Teague at 405.976 mph. It was designed by Doug's Dad Chet, who recently passed away and now the project is being built in his memory.

It's going to be powered by two V-10 supercharged Viper engines and it's quite an ambitious project. They're working on it 24/7 and hope to shake it down on the June 27-28 weekend at the East Coast Timing Association event in Maxton, N.C. then off to Bonneville in August.

Doug gave me a personal tour of the car and let me tell you something, it's an unbelievable piece of equipment. I took the opportunity to check out the cockpit where Doug will almost be laying down when he drives the car, the seat is at a 14 degree angle! Pat Foster would have been proud. If you don't know who he is google him and you'll find out why his nickname was "Sittin' Low."

After that I took a walk around the car show and Doug asked me to come up with a car I liked the best and be on the panel of judges for the awards they were giving out. Now I'm a big fan of the "Rat Rod" culture and I ran across this creation. Pretty radical huh? The coolest thing is that he even drove it to the show! Got my vote right then and there.

Last but not least I never in a million years would have thought to expect the response we've received about the benefit concert we talked about a few blogs ago for Sally Gilbertson's favorite charity, the Humane Society. I'm not kidding when I tell you this, we've got "GilbyManiacs" coming in from Atlanta, Spartanburg, S.C., and even Portland, Ore. to be there to support our cause. Thanks to all of you and I guess that you all want to see me sing and make a fool out of myself huh?
