Don't know how to start off this blog other than to thank all of you out there who sent your emails, cards, flowers, charitable contributions and even traveled long distances to celebrate the life of Sally Lynn Gilbertson.
The past three days have been a whirlwind for the Gilbertson family and the outpour of emotion and messages from the drag racing community has been unbelievable and let me tell you this, Gilby really appreciates your support.
The Motocross world also had Gilby's back along with Sally's circle of friends and TEMCO business partners, including Freightliner, so there was a whole lot of folks who were there to support my boss and his family.
I got home from the services Friday evening and opened up the email address linked to this blog:
blastoffbob@earthlink.net.
Now I've got super turbo high speed internet access through Time-Warner cable, it's rocket-car fast and I saw that there were over 230 emails from the link offering condolences and it took me 45 minutes to download all of them. I then decided to print them out for the family and spent literally four or five hours doing just that. I ran out of black ink and paper in the process and had to make a quick trip to my 24-hour WalMart to re-load but now I've got a stack of emails from all of you "GilbyManiacs" that I'll give to Gilby on Monday.
On behalf of the Gilbertson family I'd like to thank each and everyone of you for your support, especially a couple of folks who went out of their way to be there for Gilby in his time of need. One of our former crew guys, Jep Trammell, drove down from Dayton, Ohio for the services. Gilby gagged up when he saw him...
And Paul Smith and his family who traveled up from So. Florida to be there for Gilby. Paul tuned Gilby to his first NHRA win in Houston in 2000 and they were like brothers...
Remember this...Nobody promises you tomorrow.
