Happy Friday everyone.
Just a quick, short bonus blog to hold you GilbyManiacs over the weekend.
I made a hot lap to Blacksburg this morning to meet up with our assistant crew chief Kevin Fenstermaker to go over some stuff and measure the Monte Carlo for the new Rinnai wrap that's being installed next Wednesday. I'm sorry this is such a crummy cellphone photo but Kevin has the primary car ready to start; that will probably happen next week. We're in good shape for the Charlotte race on the mechanical side but it's a different story over here on Chris' and my side of the fence.
For the next 20 days we'll be working on (in no particular order) getting the final design approved, getting the car wrapped, getting the van wrapped, starting line shirts, work t-shirts for the team, all the stuff that goes along with hospitality and the two displays we're doing the days preceding the race, the never-ending calls from friends who want a free ticket (NOT!). and the logistics of getting everything in place in a timely manner.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I love my job and I know it's going to be a few crazy weeks around here but Chris and I both thrive on it and we can't wait to hit the track exactly three weeks from today.
Every time I go to Blacksburg I make it a point to fill up in S.C., because the gas prices are down there always the cheapest around. I went to the Flying J and regular was $3.37 and nine tenths; pretty good price, huh? Just wondering, what's regular cost where you live?
In the past I've posted photos here of strange stuff I've seen on my road trips but I only had to travel a half-mile to see this act. Pulled in next to this dude in a Lincoln. He opened his hood to check the oil and his dog blasted out of the car and jumped up into the engine bay. Tripped me out!
As I mentioned in our last blog, Gilby's going MX racing all weekend, Kevin and I are doing the zMax Dragway @ Concord open-house tomorrow afternoon then I'm going to skip the Panther's game tomorrow night to rest up and prepare for my first, not at the race track, singing debut with the aforementioned Belmont Playboys.
Speaking of the Playboys, just yesterday the local free alternative newspaper here in town printed a great article on the band, check it out at: http://charlotte.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/belmont_playboys_close_in_on_20_years_of_music/Content?oid=347235
