Gilby rescues the Marine CorpsThursday, July 17, 2008

Hey ya'll, BB here once again with a little bit different blog for you today.

As you probably know Gilby's business, Truck Equipment Manufacturing Company (TEMCO) builds both air and fuel tanks for a bunch of different companies including Freightliner trucks, Blue Bird school busses and literally dozens more OEM manufacturers including the US and Australian Military.

A few weeks ago Bob got a call from the U.S. Marine Corps, who had a big problem and they needed his help right away.

Seems that another vendor who built some air tanks for their High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) has had some failures including catastrophic failure when some non-conforming air tanks exploded injuring some Marines. After looking into the incident they discovered they needed to get high-quality replacement tanks built right now to retrofit the 19,000 vehicles the Marines/Army have in the field.

Each HIMARS/FMTV truck has three air storage tanks -- you can see them in the top photo behind the front wheel -- so they need replacement tanks and they wanted them ASAP.

These trucks are spread out all over the country and are ready to launch missiles if the U.S. ever gets attacked and they can't have these vehicles just sitting around not able to be deployed on a moment’s notice.

So TEMCO has been wide-open the past 10 days building replacement tanks and the first batch of tanks are being shipped today to USMC parts depots all across the country.

The big deal is that there are over 19,000 of these trucks in the military arsenal and eventually every one of them will have to have their air tanks replaced and the Army is placing their order with TEMCO so there is a lot of work ahead in the near future for TEMCO.

Gilby told me this morning that it gives him a good feeling knowing that he's doing his part to help the armed services and support the brave men and woman who are defending this country.

Check out the bottom photo; pretty impressive piece of equipment. huh?

Semper Fi everyone; type at you soon.
