Every time I put a stupid contest in our blog I never cease to be amazed about the response and yesterday's contest was no exception.

I wrote the blog and sent it to Phil Burgess to be published at 3:19 p.m. Eastern.  I received an email back from Phil who typed: “For contest purposes, posted at 4:30 p.m. ET.”

Dig this... Just four minutes! (4:34) after the blog went up, the entries started pouring in.  The first few either had the wrong answer or didn't answer both parts of the question but at 4:44 I received two emails with the correct answers so I'm declaring it a tie and duplicate prizes will be awarded.  The slang name for Detroit Diesel Intl. Compound #2, which is brown in color, is Peanut Butter.  It's used in the trucking industry to lubricate various parts of the engine during assembly but drag racers discovered it and found it has a few uses on a nitro engine.

Its primary use is to lubricate the cup on the top of the pushrods where the ball of the rocker arm sits, but many teams use it in other places when servicing the engine between rounds.

So congratulations to Denise Dasaro from Parsippany, N.J., and Billy Burst from Jackson, N.J.,  who ironically are both from Jersey and, believe it or don't, both mentioned in their reply that they were hoping that a bottle of Tradicion Azul Tequila was the prize.  Sorry guys but I'm not allowed by law to give away bottles of our sponsor's product as a prize but I will be sending you guys something cool in your prize package.

Now let's get to a really funny story about Compound #2...Instead of using it right from the can, our team puts it into those squeeze bottles with a tapered tip on them that are used for ketchup and mustard at hamburger stands.  It's a laborious process to fill them as the stuff is thick and slippery but it makes it easy to apply during between-rounds servicing of the engine.

So anyway we were at a race a few years ago at Rockingham and every time we race locally a lot of family, friends and Gilby's employees show up to cheer us on.  One particular -- dare I say not to bright -- friend of Gilby's motocross team, a real goofy kid, was at the drag races for the first time in his life.  We were cooking hot dogs on the grill, he got one and was looking for some mustard; you know where this is going huh?

So this idiot picks up the bottle of Intl. Compound #2 and squirts a load on his dog thinking it was brown spicy mustard..  A couple of us saw this happen and we real quickly alerted the rest of the guys who all stopped what they were doing to watch.

The kids grabs a soda, finds a seat and takes a bite, he started chewing and all of a sudden he made a funny face and spewed a mouthful of hot dog and Compound #2 all over the place.  It was a riot, we couldn't stop laughing and still to this day every time someone tells the story everyone cracks up.

In closing as I sit here typing this blog at 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning we've received 64 entries for the contest and I want to thank each and everyone of you for reading our often neglected, non award winning blog and participating in our stupid contests.

So now I'm going to put on my thinking cap and see if I can come up with some more contests for you "GilbyManiacs."  Keep checking in here and who knows you might be the next winner.
