Hey everyone. I got home from Indy the Wednesday after the St. Louis race. Things have been non-stop. It was my little brother, Tony’s wedding week. Tony and Apple now live in Arkansas and the wedding was in Las Vegas. Her family is from Pennsylvania, so I was really the only local in Vegas. The reason the wedding was in Vegas is because it was an easy place to meet for both families.
When I got home, I had to clean the house because Tony’s wedding was being filmed by WE channel, the Women’s Entertainment Channel, for a show called Platinum Weddings. So it wasn’t a drive thru wedding and they didn’t get married by Elvis. LOL It’s pretty odd having the camera crew around 24/7. I know what the Force family felt like with Driving Force. It felt like a reality show, which it was for a few days for the Fuller’s.
It was a big responsibility for me because I was Tony’s best man. That was the first time I was a best man. I’m not the most in-tune with weddings, so I had to ask a lot of questions about the protocol on how to do things the right way. I’m very close to my little brother. Tony is nine years younger, so many years ago I would take him on the road racing with me. It was kind of like I raised him. He would help with my sportsmen cars.
Thursday was a big day. It was bachelor party day for Tony. Usually the party is just a night thing, but we did most of the day. We rented the track at Pole Position, a really fun, super fast, indoor go-kart track. The owner, Brad, really hooked us up. Both families were there, so there were like 50 of us racing. We had heat races where they took the best times from each heat and had a championship race. I qualified for the championship race and was in second and Tony was in the lead and it was weird because these cars are electric. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the track can control the amount of power in the cars. Apple, all of a sudden, was on my bumper and bumped me out of the way and passed both me and Tony. Later on, we found out they turned out power down and gave her more power to pass us. It was funny.
The wedding was at The Rio, so the parties stayed there. When Tony and Apple used to live in Vegas, their favorite hangout was a place called Lucky Strike. It’s a really cool, trendy bowling alley. I couldn’t bowl because of my knee. I’m still nervous and cautious. My dad, Bob, bowled really well. I don’t know bowling terms, but he was the best. The group had a lot of fun and then it was on to the rest of bachelor party day.
There’s a real cool club in The Rio called the Voodoo Lounge. It’s located on the 50th floor and you can go outside and see the entire city and there is a dance floor outside. It’s very cool. We reserved an entire area and we had the whole wedding party there. In typical Rod Fuller style, I was flirting with all the bridesmaids hoping to find “the one.” Apple was making fun of me because she knew which one I was going to go after. She was right. We all had a great time at Voodoo Lounge. It didn’t get home until 5 a.m. on Friday morning, which is rare for me.
The bad part is that we had to be at The Strip at LVMS at 9 a.m. That wasn’t fun on short sleep. The camera crew at Platinum Weddings was mad at us. They were tired. The wedding activities aren’t usually that late into the night or morning. Chris Blair and Jeff Motley, our buddies at the track, had it lined up for the guys to drag race Dodge Chargers. There were a lot of drag racers there and a many of the family members had never got to race on the quarter mile, so we put on a little clinic on how to stage and cut a light. It was a good time. We were so behind on time and had another schedule event, we never finished the race. We had to leave without a winner. I went out first round; I red light. I’ll try not to do that here at Bristol.
We had to go to the tux shop to try everything on for the camera crew. We were supposed to go to The Palms and rent a cabana and lay by the pool, but we were all so tired, so we went and took a nap to get rested up. While we were racing the girls were with another camera crew getting pampered doing hair and nails and make-up. That night we had the wedding rehearsal at the church. It was a beautiful catholic church on Sahara Blvd. in Las Vegas. I had been to weddings, but there is a lot of singing and up and down at a catholic wedding. We had our rehearsal dinner at The Rio. It was really nice to have the wedding party together. It’s a real fun group. Our families mix real well.
The next morning I woke up early and went to CVS and bought some handkerchiefs because I knew somebody would be crying. I also got some water and snacks for our holding room. I was really nervous, I don’t know why. I was nervous for my little brother. The wedding went off great. Apple had a beautiful white dress and Tony choice of ring was amazing. If I get married, my fiancé is going to expect a lot.
It’s Saturday morning at Bristol, but I have more wedding stuff left. I’ll save the reception for the next blog. My guys are ready to start and we have to get the CAT dragster moved into the top half of the field.
Have a good weekend.
