The Jersey boy goes homeFriday, July 11, 2008

Hello my friends. We’re back from all the action and getting all the action started again in Denver. We’re gonna take you to my home track, Englishtown, N.J., where I got the fever for drag racing at a very young age.

We got in Tuesday night and my family was waiting with open arms and a big welcome sign. When I walked in the house, my grandma had a pizza and cheese steak waiting from one of my favorite restaurants, Icara’s. My fun-filled festivities started with my dad and me in the office watching old videos from when I first started riding PSM to some current Top Fuel videos. It was great to sit back and catch up with the family. It’s cool to see things like my little nephew, DeAndre, who is 12-years-old, starting early and racing a Jr. Dragster. He’s hooked already like I was. Gotta keep it in the family!

Later on in the week, I popped on a couple tool truck rides with some Jersey boys in Tom’s River. I rode with Tony and John on their Matco trucks. We started off by eating a great breakfast with some distributors and the local district manager Bob Rawley. Tony’s family is involved in a lot of different business from Ski-Doo shops to gas stations to his Matco Tools franchise. We met one of his true Matco customers, Joe. He had one of the most welcoming shops I’ve been to. He’s another Jersey Boy hooked with the drag racing “itis.” Then we rode with John and one of his customers that stood out was a guy named Red. He was working on an Escalade. Red was another big NHRA racing fan. It’s so cool to me that everywhere we go we meet people that love drag racing like we all do. It’s awesome to see all the NHRA support across the country.

After the tool truck ride, we had a little get together at my boy, Big Tom and Jill’s house. We had a big homecoming for all the people we grew up with in high school from around our Chesterfield way. When I walked in the house, there was a humongous picture of our Matco Tools dragster on the wall saying “Welcome Antron.” I have awesome support from all my family and friends. That’s where my saying, “Love, peace and hair grease” comes from.

Then it was off to the E-Town race. Our team went out and threw down low E.T. on Friday night to secure the No. 1 spot on Friday night. That was awesome to do that at the home track. It was a great feeling to be No. 1 at E-Town and was our second pole of the year. On Saturday, all our moods went from high to low. Once we saw the tragic accident of Scott Kalitta our hearts dropped and our prayers went out to the Kalitta family. This is one thing that us racers go through week in and week out, we put it in the back of our minds about how dangerous our sport can be. But that’s the main reason why we do what we do. We love it and have such a passion for it. We feel for the Kalittas because they are drag racing.

Scott: From one brother to another, rest in peace and we love you.
