We’re gonna change gears a little bit on this blog. Instead of talking about the races, we’ll talk about some other adventures that have gone on in the life of Antron Brown.
The Tuesday before Richmond, my boy Cameron Beer, from Forward Sports Marketing, met at the shop and we drove to Chicago for the NACS show. It was a trade show that has every company that’s involved with convenience stores. I was there to sign autographs for Go Fast! It was a lot of fun to sit there and hang out with my peeps Troy and Kelly from Go Fast! They have some awesome flavors about to hit the market, including some teas that hit the spot. Let me tell you, it tastes good. In my opinion Go Fast! is the only energy that doesn’t kick you back with a bad aftertaste. At the show, I went around to each booth to grab up all the treats and goodies to take home to my kids. They had everything. It was like Halloween for adults. This show blew my mind. It’s hard to believe how many companies are in convenience stores or “C stores.” The coolest deal is like I got everything that I buy at convenience stores for free. I need to start attending those shows more often. LOL
The weekend before Richmond was the NHRA divisional race at Atco Raceway in New Jersey. Brown Bros. Racing, my dad, Al, and uncle, Andre, were racing in Top Dragster. I got a phone call on Sunday evening from my uncle telling me what they accomplished. They won there first “Wally” in NHRA racing. They went eight rounds of racing and my uncle used a three-thousandths package in the final round to take out the D1 champ. I’m so proud of my dad and uncle. They always wanted to race for a living, but stayed at home with the family business and played at the track on the weekends. And to see them go out and win one of the toughest sportsmen classes there is against the heavy hitters in D1 brought a tear to my eye. I just want to thank both my dad and uncle for teaching me and making me the person I am today. Back in the day, they used to say, “Get down Brown” and the Brown’s got down at Atco!
Since I’m talking to you about my family and racing. I want to share some pictures and tell some stories of what started my racing addiction. I just want to let you know, I was always a ladies man. Here’s me at the age of four, on my three-wheeler that was passed on from my older brother, Carlos. I’m already trying to give a good looking chick a ride. LOL That’s me at 14-years-old at Raceway Park in Englishtown, racing the 125-cc novice class. And when I was about two-years-old, I always thought that I was the boss. After looking at these pictures, you can probably tell that I was the boss. LOL The beautiful girl in the picture isn’t my girlfriend, that’s my cousin Andrea, who e-mailed these old school pictures from back in the day. When I look back at how I grew up, from my great grandmom all the way down to my mom and dad, I’ve been very fortunate and blessed. One thing I learned from my grandpop, Albert, when he started out working out in the factory for General Motors. He went off and opened up his own business and proved that hard work and never giving up pays off. That’s one thing that I’ll always take with me. I can credit all my success to my grandpops’s legacy.
This weekend after the last four races, I’m gonna stay home and spend some time with my kids and my wife and be a couch potato and let my afro grow for Halloween. Remember, Halloween is the Friday of the Vegas race. And it’s time to end this blog by saying, love, peace and hair grease. Go Matco!
