NHRA North Central Division Summit Racing Finals kicks off

INDIANAPOLIS - The best of the best in the NHRA's North Central Division Summit Racing Series have come to O'Reilly Raceway Park to compete for individual as well as team honors at the 2007 Summit Racing Series Division Finals. The event will continue Saturday and Sunday. Drivers in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Super Pro Bike as well as a High School category and two classes of Jr. Dragsters will be competing for top honors and a share of the $56,850 purse. Competitors in the High School and Jr. Dragster classes are running for trophies.

Today's action featured the VP Racing Fuels Race of Champions, a race within a race that will pit the top points-earning drivers from each track in head-to-head competition. In the Super Pro Race of Champions, Chris Bear representing Summit Motorsports Park took the win with a time of 4.886 seconds at 138.98 mph. over Darren Keener from Windy Hollow Dragway. The Pro Race of Champions winner, Clayton Clark, driving for Beech Bend Raceway Park defeated Robby Mayne who came from London Dragway. Mike Glancy Jr. from Edgewater Sports Park drove his Gremlin to a 12.275 second run which gave him the Race of Champions win in Sportsman. In Super Pro Bike Ryan Cueni rode his Suzuki down the track at 132.86 mph which beat Bob Boruta representing Mid-Michigan Motorplex who fouled at the light. Gates at O'Reilly Raceway Park open at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Time trials continue Saturday at 8 a.m. and eliminations start Sunday morning at 9.

Sunday's winners in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Pro Bike will advance to a national run-off in November at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif. Each category winner will square off against the NHRA Summit Finals champions from NHRA's other six divisions for a winner-take-all $5,000 purse. Each of the drivers who advance to the national championship will receive an additional $3,500 for competing at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif.
