NHRA Northeast Division Summit Series finals kick off at Maple Grove Raceway

READING, Pa. – The top drivers in NHRA’s Northeast Division Summit Racing Series have come together at Maple Grove Raceway to compete for team and individual honors at the 2007 Summit Racing Series Division Finals. The event will continue Friday and Saturday. Drivers in Super E.T., Pro Eliminator, Street, Motorcycle/Snowmobile and High School Eliminator presented by Luzerne County Community College represent 15 tracks vying for top honors and a share of the $46,720 purse.

Today’s action included the King of the Track Challenge presented by Pontiac. Fifteen of the top racers across the division ran for a $10,000 purse. In the end, Steve Ryan of Westminster, Md., scored the win and a $5,000 payday over Sean Foley of Altamont, N.Y., who will take home $2,500.

Gates at Maple Grove Raceway open at 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Time trials continue Friday at 8:30 a.m. The Race of Champions, a race within a race that pits the top points-earning drivers from each track in head-to-head competition, will begin at 4 p.m. Participants in the High School Eliminator are slated run at 8 p.m. Saturday morning, High School participants will have a final qualifying pass beginning at 8:30. Eliminations in all classes will follow.

Individual champions Super E.T., Pro Eliminator, Street, Motorcycle/Snowmobile will advance to a national run-off at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Calif. Each category winner will square off against the NHRA Summit Finals champions from NHRA’s other six divisions for a winner-take-all $5,000 purse. Each of the drivers who advance to Pomona will receive an additional $3,500 for competing at Pomona Raceway.
