Pontieri makes his burnout and waits patiently.
Engel is waved off and Tony will get a single.Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 6.150/235.15, Now #12 Best prior run: 6.547/170.56, Was #18 Right Lane: Doug Palmer Runs 5.996/238.64, Now #1 Best prior run: 7.229/117.50, Was #19Early in the session, Zach Barklage is on the bump spot at 6.385.
And a great pass for Palmer!Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.585/228.65, Now #18 Best prior run: 6.360/229.98, Was #17 Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.178/228.50, Now #13 Best prior run: 6.423/186.61, Was #19Nothing against Ray, but it looks like most eyes are on Troy's turbo car.
Turbos are so unpredictable, but they usually put on a pretty good show on the top end.
That's not the pass Coughlin wanted. The car was soft off the line. It squatted but really didn't make a strong move when he dropped the clutch.
Ray gets into the show but with a bunch of cars still yet to run, it's doubtful if he's going to stay there.Left Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 9.049/105.78, Now #15 Best prior run: 6.213/209.79, Was #15The Stivers HVAC Camaro stages for a single.
Not pretty. The car blasted the tires at the top of high gear, Rick pedalled, but they spun again. It was bad enough there was actually smoke coming off them.Left Lane: Mike Stawicki Runs 6.146/230.53, Now #12 Best prior run: 6.185/230.37, Was #14 Right Lane: Eddie Ware Runs 6.159/231.95, Now #14 Best prior run: 6.237/228.96, Was #17Stawicki is barely in the provisional field, and Ware needs to step up to join it.
Both cars move up, but not nearly enough for the racers to be satisfied with their runs.Left Lane: Joshua Hernandez Runs 5.974/241.28, Now #1 Best prior run: 6.111/235.60, Was #8 Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.164/236.22, Now #15 Best prior run: 6.228/235.15, Was #17Two very strong cars pull to the line and the big news is that Stott is not yet qualified.
Rick Stivers is on the bump spot at 6.213.
Stott gets very little help, but Joshua makes a strong move to the #1 position. He's pretty familiar with the 5 second zone as he was reeling them off in Gainesville.Left Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 16.948/52.34, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.075/235.31, Was #5 Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.030/240.08, Now #3 Best prior run: 6.126/237.63, Was #10Both these cars are solidly qualified.
Tindle's effort was pretty ugly. The car started hopping off the line and it headed straight for the center line. Tim got it gathered up but the pass was history.
Critchely makes a sweet run though it looked like his Barracuda was trying to take a closer look at the wall.Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 6.003/241.97, Now #3 Best prior run: 6.059/240.55, Was #5 Right Lane: Shelly Payne Runs 6.079/233.03, Now #7 Best prior run: 6.106/233.36, Was #8Smooth, straight passes for both racers. It's going to take a 6.0 to make the top half of the field.Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.007/238.17, Now #4 Best prior run: 6.044/235.10, Was #5 Right Lane: Dan Rowe Runs 6.052/235.35, Now #6 Best prior run: 6.081/235.56, Was #8Our last pair comes to the line with one more session to go. Both racers are solidly in the middle of the field.
Both racers get the job done and go directly from A to B.
Scott Ray hangs on at 6.178. We'll try one more time later today.
