NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals halted by rain
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Teams from seventeen NHRA member tracks made the trip to Auto Club Famoso Raceway for this weekend's NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division Finals. Unfortunately, rain showers delayed the start of racing until early afternoon, and then washed out most of today's time trials with only 40 out of nearly 700 racers getting a shot at the famed quarter-mile dragstrip.
Speedworld Raceway Park of North Phoenix looks to defend their Team Championship from a year ago against the host team from Auto Club Famoso Raceway, who finished 2nd in the team standing last year, and the rest of the teams from California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada.
Gates at Auto Club Famoso Raceway open at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Time trials get back under way Saturday at 8 a.m. The Race of Champions, a race within a race that pits the top points earning drivers from each track in head-to-head competition, will start at 1 p.m. First round of eliminations will start after the Race of Champions. Eliminations continue at 8 a.m. Sunday.
Racers are competing for more than $300,000 in purse and contingency awards along with the chance to compete for the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in Pomona at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in November.
