Champion Raceway hosts top drivers in NHRA Summit Racing Series

EAGLE POINT, Ore. - The best racers from across the NHRA Northwest Division will meet at Champion Raceway to compete in the NHRA Summit Racing Series Division Finals September 8-10. Teams of top points-earning drivers in six categories will represent NHRA Member Tracks from around the region running for individual and team honors. Drivers in the Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle/Snowmobile classes will compete for cash awards of $10,600. Drivers in the High School class and two NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League categories will race for trophies.

Gates at Champion Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Time trials begin at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. The Race of Champions, a race within a race which pits the track champions in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle/Snowmobile classes in head-to-head competition, will run Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

The individual winners of the Race of Champions will advance to a national run-off at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals in November where they will square off against winners from NHRA's other six divisions for a winner-take-all purse of $5,000. Those racers will each also receive $3,500 for running in the NHRA Finals in Pomona.

The team from Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore., took home its fourth consecutive NHRA Summit Racing Series Northwest Division championship at last year's event which was held at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash. The 2005 individual champions included Ron Pappel in Super Pro; Jody Lang, who doubled up, winning in both Pro and Sportsman; Stewart Kienas in Motorcycle/Snowmobile; and Michael Peck in the High School category.

SUMMIT RACING SERIES NORTHWEST DIVISION FINALS: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals, where top drivers from NHRA member tracks across the Northwest division compete in seven classes for individual and team honors. Individual champions will advance to a national run-off at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Calif. The Race of Champions, a race within a race where the top points earners from each participating track run head-to-head for individual honors, will run on Saturday.

WHERE: Champion Raceway, Eagle Point, Ore. Track is located in the Jackson County Speed Park. From Medford, take I-5 north to Crater Lake Highway exit 30 (Hwy. 62). Go east to Highway 140 and turn right to Kershaw Road. Then turn left to Thunder Road into the track.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, September 8-10, 2006.

SCHEDULE: Time trials schedule for the Summit Racing Series Northwest Division Finals:

FRIDAY, Sept. 8 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Time trials begin at 9 a.m.

SATURDAY, Sept. 9 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Final time trials begin at 9 a.m. Race of Champions will start after the first rotation of time trials.

SUNDAY, Sept. 10 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m.
