Texas Motorplex hosts South Central Division's Summit Racing Series Finals

ENNIS, Texas - Texas Motorplex will host the 2004 NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals Oct. 1-3, 2004. Top drivers from NHRA-member tracks across the South Central division will compete in five classes for individual and team honors. Individual champions in No-Electronic Quick, No-Electronic Street, Motorcycle and either Super Pro or Pro will advance to a run-off against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November. (The winners in Super Pro and Pro have a runoff to determine who will compete in Pomona.)

Participants in the top classes will compete for cash awards of $25,950. Drivers who advance to the run-off will each receive $3,500 and the champions in each class will earn $5,000. Competitors in the High School class will earn trophies.

The team from Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Texas, won their second team championship in a row last year at the Texas Motorplex. Individual winners were Mike Greene in Super Pro, Kinnith Black in Pro, Glenn Morphew in No-Electronic Quick, Jerry Hefler in No-Electronic Street, and Mike Matthews in Motorcycle. Greene took the win over Black in the runoff to determine who would vie for the championship in Pomona.

SUMMIT RACING SERIES SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION FINALS: Fact Sheet WHAT: Summit Racing Series, where top drivers from NHRA member tracks across the South Central division compete in five classes for individual and team honors. WHERE: Texas Motorplex, Ennis, Texas. Track is located on Hwy. 287, two miles west of Ennis between Interstates 35 and 45. From Dallas, take I-45 to Hwy. 287 west to the track, or take I-35E to Hwy. 287 east to the track. From Fort Worth, take Hwy. 287 east to Waxahachie toward the track.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, Oct. 1-3, 2004.

SCHEDULE: Time trials schedule for the Summit Racing Series South Central Division Finals:

FRIDAY, Oct. 1 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Time trials begin at 9 a.m.

SATURDAY, Oct. 2 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Final time trials begin at 9 a.m.

SUNDAY, Oct. 3 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m.

PURSE: The Summit E.T. Racing Series competitors in Super Pro, Pro, Quick and Street will compete for cash awards of $25,950. FEATURES: More than 600 drivers in five racing categories: Super Pro (cars running 7.00 seconds to 10.49 seconds), Pro (10.50-13.99), No Electronic Quick (7.00-11.99), No Electronic Street (12.00-19.99); Motorcycle (25.00 and quicker), High School (13.00 and slower). Special Race of Champions Saturday will feature top driver from each participating race track.
