Decision finalized for Stock, Super Stock

10/01/2004

The NHRA Competition Committee has decided not to make an overhaul of the class structure within Stock and Super Stock for 2005 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season. While it was unanimous that reducing the number of classes is a necessary move, at this time there has not been enough input at this time to decide on how to go about such a change. The NHRA will continue to gather racer input on the issue of reducing classes as the Committee goes forward with a focus on possible changes for the 2006 season.

Within Stock and Super Stock, minor adjustments have been made to the classes. Within Stock, a new front-wheel drive weight break has been added for the new-generation factory cars that are currently available. In Super Stock, the Modified Compact class will be blended with the Modified Stock with the addition of three new designations.

"The Competition Committee would like to thank the hundreds of racers who did give their input," said Len Imbrogno, Director of Sportsman Racing and Member Tracks. "What was more important than the actual yes or no vote was the racers' opinions and ideas sent in on how to facilitate class reductions. Bottom line is that racer input does matter and it helps lend direction when decisions are to be made that effect such a large number of racers."

The announcement of the 2005 rule changes will be made in the coming weeks.
