Horsepower, index changes for Super Stock, Stock

12/14/2004

As a result of runs at the Division 2 Montgomery Open, the following index and horsepower changes have been implemented.

Due to a 1.54-under run in SS/DS, NHRA has adjusted the class index from 11.35 to 11.20. Based on a 1.46-under run in F/FIA, NHRA has increased the horsepower rating for the 1985 Chevy Camaro 305 engine with a factory rating of 215 and the 1986 Pontiac Firebird with the 305 engine and a factory rating of 210, by 3.25 percent, from 249 to 258 horsepower.

Also, during the event, a V/SA vehicle recorded a 1.481-under the index run, thus NHRA has increased the horsepower rating on 1980 to 1984 Chevy Malibu, Chevy Monte Carlo, and Chevy El Camino with a 229 engine and a factory rating of 110/115 from 147 horsepower to 152 horsepower.

NHRA's 2004 Automatic Horsepower Factoring System outlines that any run of 1.40-second or more under the index will receive an immediate index decrease or horsepower increase. These changes are effective Dec. 13, 2004.
