Anderson wins third/Lang doubles
KENT, Wash. - Gary Anderson picked up his third win in a row and Jody Lang grabbed wins in both Super Stock and Stock at this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Dollarwise.
Anderson, of Tacoma, Wash., took out Steve Wilmoth with a run of 8.335 seconds at 163.16 mph to Wilmoth's 8.698, 150.18. Anderson's win ended Wilmoth's streak of two straight wins here at Pacific Raceways of the Northwest Division event.
Puyallup, Wash., resident Lang out ran Mark Faul in the final of Super Stock running 11.105 seconds at 119.52 mph then met up with Tacoma, Wash., racer Terry Malm in the final of Stock, talking the win with a 12.373 second lap at 103.10 mph.
Morgan Lucas and John Weaver started early, taking home wins on Saturday night in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Lucas took out Mitch Meyers in a semi-final match up then recorded a 5.310 second, 268.06 mph pass in the final against Steve Federlin of Oregon City, Ore. Federlin clocked in at 5.416 seconds at 263.36 mph.
Weaver outran Roger Bateman in the funny car final with a lap of 5.796 seconds at 239.53 mph to Bateman's 5.932, 243.90. Weaver, who leads the Northwest Division Funny Car points, faced off against Fife, Wash., driver Bucky Austin in the semi-finals with Weaver's 5.777 at 244.29 bettering Austin's 5.932, 243.96. The win stretches Weaver's points lead over Austin who sits in second.
Violet Larson of University Place, Wash., won over Brian Anderson in Super Comp and Ed DeStaute took the win in Super Gas. Super Street racer Brett Waldron knocked off Bob Landy of Tacoma, Wash., with a 10.889 second, 142.32 mph pass and Tom Koenen ran a 7.462, 181.45 for the win in Top Comp over Frank Tames.
In the Kerker Motorcycle Series, it was Mark Kosler taking his second win of the season with a 9.881, 125.79 on his '84 Suzuki over Mike O'Leary. Kosler picked up a win two weeks ago at Woodburn Dragstrip.
The Northwest Division racers head back to Woodburn Dragstrip for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, July 9-11.

Lucas, Weaver take wins at Pacific Raceways
KENT, Wash. - Morgan Lucas and John Weaver took home wins at this weekend's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Dollarwise. Lucas took out Mitch Meyers in a semi-finals match up then recorded a 5.310 second, 268.06 mph pass in the Top Alcohol Dragster final against Steve Federlin of Oregon City, Ore. Federlin clocked in at 5.416 seconds at 263.36 mph.
Weaver outran Roger Bateman in the Top Alcohol Funny Car Final with a lap of 5.796 seconds at 239.53 mph to Bateman's 5.932, 243.90. Weaver, who leads the Northwest Division Funny Car points, faced off against Fife, Wash., driver Bucky Austin. Weaver's 5.777 at 244.29 bettered Austin's 5.932, 243.96. The win stretches Weaver's points lead over Austin who sits in second.
Mike Pessemier of Graham, Wash., qualified No. 1 in Comp. Eliminator with a pass of 6.701 seconds while Phil Mandella put his '68 Barracuda in the top spot in Super Stock. Joe Sorensen leads the Stock field with a 10.090 second run and Shawn Cowie in No. 1 in Top Comp at 6.481 seconds, 209.23 mph.
The Kerker Motorcycle Series is running in conjunction with this weekend's event with Scott Pollacheck leading the field into tomorrow's eliminations.

Lucas, Thompson lead fields at Pacific Raceways
KENT, Wash. - In the final rounds of qualifying at Pacific Raceways, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Morgan Lucas and Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Clint Thompson took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes. This weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Dollarwise marks the fourth of seven events in the NHRA Northwest Division.
Lucas ran quicker on each of his qualifying passes recording a 5.358 second lap at 267.37 mph in the final session to take the No. 1 qualifying spot. Lucas is followed by Steve Federlin and Joe Severance with passes of 5.389, 261.17 and 5.447, 256.31.
Lucas picked up a national event win earlier this year in Las Vegas while Mitch Meyers, qualified fourth, has three national event wins and is currently second in the chase for the national championship.
Thompson, with a pass of 5.723 seconds at 250.09, leads the funny car field with John Weaver and Fife, Wash., resident Bucky Austin in the second and third spots respectively. Thompson was runner-up to event winner Weaver at Mission Raceway Park in early May and Austin grabbed the win last month at Woodburn Dragstrip. Weaver currently leads the NHRA Northwest Division point's standings over Austin in second while Thompson sits back in fifth place.
Kent, Wash., resident Forrest La Blanc had a best run of 6.530 seconds at 222.55 which puts him 11th and outside the 8-car field.
Mike Pessemier leads the Comp. Eliminator field with a run of 6.701 seconds with Phil Mandella and Joe Sorensen on top in the Super Stock and Stock classes. Scott ran a lap of 9.116 seconds and Sorensen went 10.090 seconds.
Joe Collette qualified No. 1 in the Kerker Motorcycle Series on his '03 Kawasaki and Shawn Cowie is No. 1 in Top Comp with a run of 6.550 seconds at 205.76 mph.
Racing continues Saturday at 10 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car eliminations are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call Pacific Raceways at (253)639-5927

Division 6 racers in the groove at Pacific Raceways
KENT, Wash. - Pacific Raceways will host a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Dollarwise, June 18-20. The race is the fourth of seven in Northwest division competition where drivers in eight categories, including 260 mph Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC), will compete for valuable points leading to divisional and national championships
Division 6 racers in the groove at Pacific Raceways The division's Top Comp class and the Kerker Motorcycle Series, featuring the Sportsman Motorcycle category, will also run in conjunction with the race.
John Weaver, of Orting, Wash., hopes to build on his Northwest Division Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) points lead, after a big win last month at Mission, B.C., with his Pontiac Firebird. Action in the Northwest continues at Pacific Raceways at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Dollarwise, June 18-20.
Standing firmly in Weaver's way will be defending division champion Bucky Austin. After qualifying in the top spot at Mission, the six-time Northwest Division Champion from Fife, Wash., suffered rare mechanical problems in the second round of competition and watched Weaver move on to defeat Klamath Falls, Ore.'s Clint Thompson in the final. Austin won the Pacific Raceways event and four others in 2003 to run away with the division title.
Former Northwest Division Champ Steve Federlin, of Oregon City, is in first place in the Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) points after taking the win at Mission over former division champ Mark Hentges after the Federal Way, Wash., racer had mechanic problems in the class final.
Competition Eliminator standout Gary Anderson drove his '99 Pontiac Firebird to a wins at Mission and Woodburn. He hopes to add a Pacific Raceways victory to his resume as well.
Gates at Pacific Raceways open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials will begin at 10 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at the same time. TAD and TAFC will have three qualifying sessions on Friday at 3, 6 and 9 p.m. with eliminations slated to begin Saturday at 3 p.m. Eliminations in all other categories begin Sunday at 10 a.m.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 6 to 14 are $5 each day and children 5 and under are admitted free. There is also a special $40 three-day pass, which is available for advance purchase only.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2004 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $109,000 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 46 Lucas Oil events: $1,000 each in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car; $200 each in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock. (TAD and TAFC compete at 43 of 46 divisional events.)
JEG'S ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $100,000 point fund from Jeg's High Performance. The 2004 Jeg's Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2004 Jeg's Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $20,000 towing fund to get to the event.
This year, event sponsor, Jeg's High Performance, has offered a "double up" bonus to Allstars competitors. Winners in each individual class who go on to win the national event will have their Allstars prize money doubled.
NHRA KERKER MOTORCYCLE SERIES: Run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the NHRA Kerker Motorcycle Series is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA's Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,800 champions' purse posted by Kerker will be paid to first, second and third place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
The top four riders from each division in the NHRA Kerker Motorcycle Series will be invited to compete in the NHRA Kerker King of the Coast competition. In 2004, the All-Star invitational will be run in November during the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas. The rider who is crowned the Kerker King of the Coast will earn $2,000. The runner-up in the 16-bike field will receive $1,000.
Currently, Sportsman Motorcycles are run in NHRA's South Central, West Central, Northwest and Pacific divisions.
