Ohio-based Summit Racing Equipment, the industry leader in high performance car and truck parts, has announced a one-race primary sponsorship agreement with "Aussie Dave" Grubnic and Kalitta Motorsports for the upcoming 40th annual Pontiac Excitement NHRA Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment in Columbus, Ohio.
Grubnic will pilot the Summit Racing Equipment Top Fuel dragster in accompaniment with Kalitta Motorsports' two other Top Fuel entries driven by cousins Doug and Scott Kalitta.
The Pontiac Excitement NHRA Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment is the 10th of 23 national events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
"Since Summit Racing Equipment is the world's leading performance supplier, we were looking to join up with one of the premier Top Fuel Teams, and we feel there is a great fit with Kalitta Racing," said Jeff Winters, marketing team manager of Summit Racing Equipment. "David Grubnic is an aggressive competitor that possesses good character and relates well with the fans. It's the kind of winning combination we look for in the drivers and teams we partner with.
"We are always looking for ways to give back something to our customers and fans, and helping David promote his new role with Kalitta Racing is great for the sport."
Grubnic, a journeyman Top Fuel driver from Brisbane, Australia, is in his first season behind the wheel of the third Kalitta team car. The popular pro has been driving nitro rails in the United States since 1995.
"This is an awesome alliance," Grubnic said. "I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the Summit executives and corporate staff and they're all really great folks. They are so excited about being associated with our racecar, and we feel the same way. It's so great to see their enthusiasm. Hopefully, we can make them proud and get their car into the winner's circle in Columbus."
