50th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals website celebrates world's most prestigious drag race

6/23/2004

As befitting a race as rich in history as the upcoming 50th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, a comprehensive new website will offer NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series fans an opportunity to access the latest information and history of the world's most prestigious drag race. The 50th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals site, located at www.50th-usnationals.com, features four main sections: 2004 Event, History, Past Winners, and Photo Archives.

"This website offers a fitting tribute to NHRA's most prestigious event," said NHRA Editorial Director Phil Burgess, who directed the team that researched and constructed the site. "We wanted to capture the event's rich history as well as its intriguing lore in words and photos and showcase the event's progress over the last five decades."

The 2004 Event section provides information about special activities at this year's event, including the NHRA Fanfest, Golden 50 car collection, Memorable Moments, and popular Cacklefest. Interviews with the stars of today and yesterday also will be showcased; many drivers will recount their feelings about winning the U.S. Nationals. The section will be continually updated to keep fans abreast of the latest special activities at the event and will provide links to important information, such as the event's daily and television schedules, ticket information, and the official entry list.

In the History section, visitors can review the outcome of all 49 previous editions of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in a series of stories. Some recaps are presented in the form of archived articles from the pages of National DRAGSTER magazine. Additionally, stories recapping the Nationals' pre-Indianapolis history, the accomplishments of those drivers who have dominated the event's results over time, and a U.S. Nationals timeline are included.

The Past Winners section offers a database of Nationals winners and finalists since 1955, searchable by year, class, driver, and combinations of the three, which is sure to be a fan favorite. Additionally, a complete quick-reference listing of everyone who has ever won the Big Go and the year(s) in which they accomplished the cherished feat is available.

The Photo Archives section offers nearly 400 timeless photos from the event's history, categorized into decades, as well as two special galleries saluting the event's many venues along with some of the thrilling moments of the event's past.

"We think that the site offers something for everyone," Burgess added. "This group encompasses longtime fans who remember well the stars of the 1950s and their incredible inventiveness and mechanical ingenuity and today's casual fans who watch on ESPN and cheer for Tony Schumacher and John Force yet want to know more about the sport's incredible history."
