Motorplex suite redesign, parking lot surfacing underway
6/11/2004
Texas Motorplex, the NHRA-sanctioned drag strip just south of Dallas, has begun major renovations and upgrades to its tower suites and hard surface parking areas.
The suite redesign includes adding starting line balcony seating to all luxury suites in the three-story complex as well as interior layout upgrades. Constructed in 1986 as the first super-track in drag racing, Texas Motorplex will be one of a handful of facilities with balcony seating and the only one in the world with balcony seating at the starting line.
"Our goal with the re-design is to offer our suite holders a totally unique experience when they come to our facility," said Arthur O'Bright Texas Motorplex General Manager. "The balconies will offer our guests the opportunity to experience the outdoor excitement of our sport as well the indoor social benefits of the suite. The balconies will also offer our suite holders a more positive experience at concerts and non-sporting events."
In addition to the suite renovations, Texas Motorplex is adding hard surface parking areas in the main spectator parking lot, reconfiguring the starting line infield area with additional hard surfacing between the grandstands, and adding two new hard-surfaced sportsman pit areas.
"We wanted to reconfigure the entire starting line area to make our venue more conducive to hosting concerts, rodeos, and other non-motorsports events," O'Bright said. "The parking lot hard surfaces are obviously being made to ensure positive parking experiences in all weather situations for our guests. The additional hard surfaces will make our facility one of the most flexible for events in the southwest. We are the largest outdoor stadium facility south of I-30 in north Texas and we plan on being very aggressive in pursuing a variety of events."
Texas Motorplex made accommodations to its racing schedule by only hosting limited events in June and July to allow for all the construction projects to be completed. Texas Motorplex annually hosts the NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals, September 23-26, as well as over 50 other motorsports events.
