First photo of Scelzi's Hemi Oakley Dodge

1/16/2004

Here's the first look at Gary Scelzi's all-new Hemi Oakley Dodge paint scheme as the car prepares to embark from Don Schumacher Racing's Indianapolis race shops on a Dodge-sponsored promotional tour en route to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for pre-season testing Jan. 28-31.

The team is also scheduled to test at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Ariz., Feb. 6-8, 2004, in preparation for the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, which opens at Pomona Raceway in Southern California on Feb. 19-22.

"We're really excited about Dodge and Mopar promoting the Hemi," said Scelzi, of Fresno, Calif., who holds the Funny Car national top speed record of 329.18 mph, set in 2003 in the Oakley Time Bomb Dodge Stratus. "We have two brand-new race cars. We're going to be working with both cars under different conditions, to see which car works the best in the heat and which car works the best in the cold. It's possible that you actually might need different cars for hot, slippery race tracks than you do for cold, sticky race tracks."
