Lions Gate Entertainment to sponsor Head

2/19/2004

Jim Head

Lions Gate Entertainment, the premier independent film entertainment studio, has signed a deal with AK Motorsports to become the primary advertising sponsor for a new racing team led by Jim Head, who makes his return to Funny Cars after a 15-year absence. It is the second consecutive year that the company has been a major sponsor on the NHRA racing circuit following a very successful debut as part of the Worsham Racing Team in 2003.

Under terms of the agreement, the Lions Gate Entertainment Toyota Celica Funny Car will display catchy advertisements for various theatrical and DVD titles beginning at the NHRA K&N Filters Winternationals, where the team will feature the Terminator 2: Extreme DVD logo. Other films from the company's extensive library of more than 8,000 titles as well as current theatrical releases will be advertised extensively on the car as the racing season rolls on.

"We're extremely happy to welcome Lions Gate as our major sponsor," Head said. "We know the millions of NHRA fans will also be enthused about Lions Gate Entertainment as we unveil an incredible slate of awesome-looking cars featuring their outstanding theatrical and home video releases."

Additionally, Lions Gates Entertainment will be a major associate sponsor for Jerry Toliver's Schick Quattro Toyota Celica Funny Car.

"We were extremely pleased with the amount of exposure we received for our home video titles during NHRA events last year and are proud to continue this association for home video and theatrical releases in 2004," said Steve Beeks, LionsGate's president. "This groundbreaking sponsorship is a very beneficial business venture for Lions Gate Entertainment. Having Lions Gate DVD titles advertised on a race car that will constantly attract a great deal of attention significantly enhances our overall marketing efforts."
