King lands Modern Outlaw Apparel as primary sponsor

8/30/2004
Mitch King

Top Fuel owner/driver Mitch King has secured a primary sponsorship agreement with Modern Outlaw Apparel for the remainder of the 2004 season. Previously a part-time participant on the NHRA POWERade tour, King now plans to compete in the final six races on the '04 schedule, as he and the Modern Outlaw brand test market their program with an eye on further growth and involvement in 2005.

King, a Galveston, Texas, resident and owner of La King's Confectionery, a unique Galveston landmark, made his Top Fuel debut in 2002 and stunned the class by defeating POWERade champion Larry Dixon in Round 1 at his first race. King as appeared at six NHRA national events this season, successfully qualifying at his last five races. He currently holds the 18th position in the POWERade points with six round wins.

Modern Outlaw Apparel, a northern California-based lifestyle apparel company, has been an associate sponsor on King's car this year and will now move up to the primary spot for the remainder of the season.

"We're absolutely thrilled to move Modern Outlaw to the primary position in our program, and thank them for the support they've shown to us all year," King said, as he readied his team for this week's 50th anniversary Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. "I've always been a strong believer in the marketing power of NHRA POWERade Drag Racing, and the Modern Outlaw people have come to believe it too. Our goal is to get their name and their exciting products in front of the avid NHRA fans, because we know our fans are loyal to companies that back the teams they follow, and we think they're going to love what they see."

In conjunction with the primary sponsorship, Modern Outlaw will also debut a full line of Mitch King Modern Outlaw merchandise in a newly-designed souvenir trailer. The popular, cutting-edge, Modern Outlaw line of apparel will include both men's and women's silk-screened and embroidered clothing with trendy graphics, which will feature both the "Outlaw Look" and clear Mitch King identification.

"Modern Outlaw made it known to us that they want to be seen as the company that backs Mitch King, and the apparel will clearly reflect that," King said. "This is a partnership, and it's based on taking their rapidly growing market share and developing it even further with an obvious and clear association with our Top Fuel program. We're honored to partner with them, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to put a hot new company like this on the side of our Top Fuel dragster. With this kind of help, we think we can develop our racing program to new heights as well."
