NHRA pros ready to tee it up for charity

4/27/2004

Larry Dixon

Some of the NHRA's top drivers will attempt a different kind of driving when they participate in the O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Speedway Children's Charities Golf Tournament Thursday.

The golf tournament, which will take place at The Ridges in Jonesborough, precedes this weekend's fourth annual O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Quaker State at Bristol Dragway.

Among the drivers who will participate in the tournament are defending Bristol Dragway Top Fuel titleholder Brandon Bernstein and defending Top Fuel NHRA champ Larry Dixon. Others scheduled to play include defending Pro Stock points champion Greg Anderson, Gary Scelzi, Tommy Johnson Jr., Tony Schumacher, Jim Head, Allen Johnson, Mark Pawuk, Gary Densham, Clay Millican, Cory McClenathan, Jason Line, and Scott Palmer.

Dixon didn't hesitate in committing to play in the tournament.

"It's for a great cause," he said, "and I'm honored that I was asked to participate in the tournament. It's a great way for us to be able to give a little back and the fact that the money raised will go to children's charities makes it all the more worthwhile."

NHRA drivers will be paired with a foursome for the Captain's Choice tourney format. All money raised through entry fees will benefit Bristol Speedway Children's Charities.
