Schumacher to help welcome home 4th Infantry Division

04/20/2004

Tony Schumacher

Tony Schumacher will take part in the planned "Welcome Home Celebration" Thursday for the 4th Infantry Division, which is based in Fort Hood, Texas.

The driver of the United States Army Top Fuel dragster will be among a number of dignitaries who will address the unit that was chiefly responsible for the capture of Saddam Hussein.

"This is just a tremendous honor that I was asked to participate in such an important event," Schumacher said. "I'm going to be in front of some true heroes. I'm probably going to come home with a lot of autographs."

Schumacher, who leads the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point standings, will briefly speak to the soldiers, before introducing country music artist, Tracy Byrd, who will perform a 45-minute concert.

Other celebrities scheduled to attend include Jessica Simpson, Drew Carey, John Michael Montgomery, and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

The U.S. Army Top Fuel show dragster and the U.S. Army show Pro Stock Bikes will also be on display throughout the day.

More than 100,000 spectators are expected for the event along with major news outlets from around the country.
