K&N Filters renews sponsorship of lucrative NHRA Pro Bike Klash

4/20/2004

The NHRA has announced that K&N Engineering has renewed its sponsorship agreement for the lucrative race-within-a-race bonus program for Pro Stock Bike competitors.

The 14th annual K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash presented by eHomeCredit Corp. will be contested during the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park. This year's event will be made even more special by the fact this is the 50th annual running of the U.S. Nationals, the oldest and most prestigious race in the POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Pro Stock Bike riders started earning points for the 2004 K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash at the 2003 Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. The eight riders accumulating the most qualifying points during the K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash series, which concludes at the 2004 O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, will earn a berth in the K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash.
Craig Treble was all smiles when he collected the
grand prize from K&N's Wendy Grover in 2002.

Riders will compete for a total purse of $51,000 in the K & N Filters Pro Bike Klash in 2004: $36,000 is available for the Klash, while $15,000 in bonuses are awarded to the quickest Pro Stock Bike qualifiers at each national event throughout the K&N Klash series.

The K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash winner will receive $15,000. The runner-up will earn $5,000. The two semifinalists will earn $3,000 each. The four first round finishers will earn $2,500 apiece. Low qualifiers earn $1,000 at each of the 15 events in the K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash.

Currently, with seven of 15 races completed, 2003 POWERade champion Geno Scali leads the provisional field of eight riders hoping to earn a berth in this year's K&N Klash. Harley professional Andrew Hines and three-time NHRA champion Angelle Savoie are close behind Scali with a pair of low qualifier honors each buoying their hopes. Shawn Gann, Craig Treble, GT Tonglet, Fred Collis, and Mike Berry round out the provisional field, with red-hot riders Antron Brown and Karen Stoffer closing in fast.

In the history of the event, former NHRA champions Matt Hines and the late John Myers have been the most prolific competitors, each scoring four K&N Klash crowns. Hines, who currently tunes the Vance & Hines Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson V-Rod of his younger brother Andrew, won four in a row from 1996-1999. Likewise, Myers collected four straight from 1992-1995.

Reggie Showers, Craig Treble, Shawn Gann, Antron Brown, and James Bernard have also scored victories at the K&N Klash.
