Don Prudhomme Racing announces resignation of Ron Capps

11/17/2004
Skoal announces '05 plans
Skoal Racing will remain involved in NHRA POWERade Drag Racing and its Skoal Showdown, as well as NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing, the company announced. Skoal Racing will also continue its relationship with Snake Racing and driver Tommy Johnson Jr.

"We remain steadfast in our belief that NHRA Drag Racing remains one of the most exhilarating sports in the nation," said Tom LoBosco, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) senior director, 1-on-1 marketing. "As an official NHRA sponsor and our continued support of Tommy Johnson Jr., we look forward to the 2005 season and the continued growth of drag racing."

Don Prudhomme Racing has announced the resignation of driver Ron Capps.

"Our plan is to continue racing with Tommy Johnson Jr. and Larry Dixon next season, while also considering other opportunities that would allow us to field either an additional Top Fuel dragster or Funny Car in 2005," Prudhomme said.

"My relationship with Ron [Capps] is more than just a driver/owner relationship. More importantly, we are very close friends and will remain that. I wish Ron all the success at whatever venture he decides to pursue."

"This was a very difficult decision for me to make because Don and Lynn Prudhomme have been more than just an employer, but rather a family to me," Capps added. "I share those same sentiments for those at U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company and the entire Skoal Racing team. Being teamed with both Larry [Dixon] and T.J. [Tommy Johnson] was more than I could have ever imagined as a driver.

"Snake took a chance on me eight years ago and I owe every bit of that success to him and the Prudhomme family. My personal relationship with Snake has and will continue to remain solid at and away from the race track."

Don Prudhomme Racing is headquartered in Vista, Calif., with a second shop – Don Prudhomme Racing, Brownsburg, Ind. – serving as the base for racing operations. Drivers Larry Dixon and Tommy Johnson Jr. complete the roster of Don Prudhomme Racing drivers and proudly represent such racing partners as Miller Brewing Co., U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., Lucas Oil Products and Raybestos.
