Your dream job? National DRAGSTER has editorial opening
11/4/2004
It's not every job that offers you the chance to trade stories with Pro racers or look over the shoulders of drag racing's top crew chiefs as they tune their machines, an occupation that requires you travel the nation and take in the 330-mph excitement of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series not from the grandstands but from trackside, a line of work that allows you to have your finger on the pulse of today's breaking news and to be part of one the most famous and long-established publications in auto racing, but this one does.
National DRAGSTER, the official publication of the National Hot Rod Association, has a rare opening in its editorial department for an associate editor at NHRA headquarters in Glendora, Calif.
In general, editorial staff members in this position perform race reporting and feature writing for National DRAGSTER as well as contributing to other NHRA publications, such as the annual Fan Guide and NHRA.com. Duties include but are not limited to traveling to and reporting on NHRA national events; developing and contributing feature stories on an ongoing basis; coordinating coverage for a specific NHRA division, including race reports, news, and liaison with Division Director; contributing news and stories for Bits From The Pits; coordinating and writing coverage on specific eliminator(s); and assisting other writers as necessary with data and copy input.
Applicants should have a minimum of a high-school education plus at least one year of journalism or writing experience. A strong knowledge of drag racing, including its history, is absolutely mandatory. Familiarity with the current magazine style and contents is a plus. Applicants must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work under extreme weekly deadline pressure, and possess good phone, interview, and computer skills. In return for your talents, we offer you a competitive salary and benefit package. Please send your résumé to Phil Burgess, National DRAGSTER, 2220 E. Route 66, Suite 101, Glendora, CA 91740; you may also submit your information via e-mail.
