For the second consecutive year, the prestigious Barrett-Jackson Auction Company selected the Darrell Gwynn Foundation as the benefactor of its charity auction, which kicked off last weekend's second annual Palm Beach collector car auction. In 2003, the event raised over $32,000 for DGF. Receipts from this year's event are still being calculated.

"The Barrett-Jackson Company epitomizes class and superior corporate citizenship," Gwynn said. "It's an honor to have their continued support in the fight to find a cure for paralysis. We are equally proud to share the evening's proceeds with a world renowned South Florida-based leader in medical research in the advancement of treatment of spinal cord injuries, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis."

In 1990, Gwynn, a world champion drag racer, suffered life-threatening injuries in a devastating crash during an exhibition run in England. The accident left him a quadriplegic and cost him part of his left arm.

Undeterred, he continued to field winning and record-breaking race cars as a team owner. In addition Gwynn became a tireless spokesperson and fundraiser on behalf of paralysis prevention and treatment. His personal financial support of The Miami Project precedes his own spinal cord injury.

Today, Gwynn continues to maintain a high-profile in the motorsports community while presiding over the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, which launched in 2002. A certified non-profit 501c3 agency, the foundation exists to prevent, provide for and ultimately cure spinal cord injuries and other debilitating illnesses. To expedite specific cures, the Foundation assists in the funding of targeted research. It is also dedicated to injury prevention, with special emphasis on programs targeting children.

"For the spinal cord injured and paralyzed who once could walk to do so again will take medical breakthroughs developed through research," said Gwynn. "Encouraging progress is being made, and the Darrell Gwynn Foundation is excited to have joined with The Miami Project in launching a Neuroprotection Studies laboratory helping with this critical research. None of this would be possible without the interest and support of special friends like the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company."

Barrett-Jackson Auction Company specializes in providing products and services to classic and collector car owners, astute collectors and automotive enthusiasts around the world. The company produces the "World's Greatest Classic Car Auction" in Scottsdale, Ariz., and has expanded to other venues that include West Palm Beach, Fla., and Beverly Hills at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
