U.S. Army Pro Stock Bike riders ready for boot camp

3/18/2004

Angelle Savoie

Upon completion of this weekend's Mac Tools Gatornationals, U.S. Army Pro Stock Bike riders Angelle Savoie and Antron Brown will be traveling to Fort Jackson, S.C., to participate in a three-day boot camp, or "greening," along with a group of NASCAR and NHRA executives.

"It should be interesting," Savoie said. "I hope I'm up to handling everything they throw at us. I've been taking some kick boxing classes, so that should help me. I'm actually looking forward to the experience. We'll get to see, first-hand, what the soldiers go through."

"I've been doing a lot of fitness training for this so I won't embarrass myself," Brown said. "Like Angelle, I'm eagerly awaiting the trip. I'm sure we'll have some fun and there will be plenty of stories to tell afterwards."

Antron Brown

Team-building exercises will be stressed throughout the three days. Led by drill sergeants, the group will go through training methods that neophyte soldiers endure in their first days in the Army.

"We're going to have the total experience, even down to the living conditions in barracks," Savoie said. "We'll be issued U.S. Army uniforms for drills and exercises and will be expected for physical training (P.T.) at 6 a.m. each day. It will be a nice education for both Antron and I, you can be certain of that."

This is the second season for the U.S. Army as sponsor for both Savoie and Brown, who are part of the Don Schumacher Racing stable. Tony Schumacher also carries the U.S. Army colors on his Top Fuel dragster.

"It's these type of activities that sets the Army apart from other sponsors," Brown said. "We're so fortunate to be partnered with them."
