Schumacher named U.S. Army's 'Communicator of the Year'

3/3/2004

"This is a tremendous honor. I'm truly touched."
– Tony Schumacher

Tony Schumacher, driver of the United States Army Top Fuel dragster, will receive a special "Communicator of the Year" award from the United States Army's Office of Public Affairs Thursday, just prior to competing in this weekend's 20th annual Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix.

The award presentation will be part of the U.S. Army Public Affairs Career Field's annual worldwide convention, which is the premier communications event for the organization.

Schumacher, who has participated in a number of activities for the U.S. Army away from the track, including a trip to visit the soldiers in the Middle East, is being singled out as an excellent example of Army values, traditions, and professionalism.

"In a time when the American soldier is Time Magazine's Person of the Year, this is a tremendous honor," Schumacher said. "I feel blessed that I have such a great marketing partner in the U.S. Army. Everything I do for them on or off the track comes from the heart. I'm truly touched by this award."

The Chicago native heads to the Phoenix race as the Top Fuel point leader based off a win at the K&N Filters Winternationals last weekend.
