Impressive line-up for Force's Holiday Car Show

12/2/2004
John Force

A celebrity autograph session that includes the top five Funny Car drivers in the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is just one of the enticements expected to bring several thousand car enthusiasts to the John Force Racing complex Sunday for the annual JFR Holiday Car Show benefitting the "ChiPs for Kids" Christmas charity.

In addition to an up-close look at several hundred custom hot rods, interaction with many of drag racing's top stars, tours of the expanded and remodeled John Force Racing shop facility, and live music featuring three different bands, fans also can take advantage of several "holiday specials" posted in the adjacent John Force RaceStation store.

Coming off an unprecedented 13th championship season, Force headlines a celebrity lineup that includes three-time former Top Fuel champion Gary Scelzi, Del Worsham, Gary Densham, Ron Capps, Eric Medlen, Cory McClenathan, Tom "the Mongoose" McEwen, Ashley Force, Linda Vaughn, and the John Force Racing braintrust of crew chiefs Austin Coil, Bernie Fedderly, John Medlen and Jimmy Prock.

Admission to the show is free with the donation of an unwrapped, $10 toy to the "ChiPs for Kids" toy drive program.

Among the many award-winning custom cars expected is a 1958 Cadillac Brougham restored by Dale Armstrong, the former Funny Car and Top Fuel championship-winning crew chief for Kenny Bernstein. Armstrong, who now specializes in classic car restorations from his shop in Temecula, Calif., was one of last year's show winners.

Day-long live entertainment will be provided by The Torquays, Mad Man Billy, and Tony & The Car Hops bands

The JFR shop has undergone a complete makeover since the 2003 car show including a new covered "home" for retired Castrol GTX, Castrol Syntec, and Auto Club Funny Cars, an expanded machine shop, new entranceway, and new offices.

Throughout the day, the John Force RaceStation store will offer "car show specials" on collectibles, art and apparel. The multi-level store, open to the public Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, has one of the nation's largest inventories of collectibles, not just of John Force Racing team members, but of other NHRA drivers and NASCAR drivers.

The show will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday and run through 4 p.m. The John Force Racing complex is located off the 91 Freeway in Yorba Linda, Calif. From either direction on the 91, exit at Weir Canyon/Yorba Linda Boulevard and go north. Turn right at Savi Ranch Parkway and look for directions to parking.
