Red Line Oil expands relationship with Grubnic

8/11/2004
Dave Grubnic

Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragster driver "Aussie Dave" Grubnic planned to drive his specially-painted Red Line Oil dragster in Sonoma and Chicago . But after reaching the final round in his new car at Sonoma, Red Line Oil has decided to stay on board Grubnic's 330-mph hot rod for a while longer.

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, California-based Red Line Oil will now provide primary sponsorship for Grubnic's Team Kalitta entry at this weekend's NHRA national event in Brainerd, Minn., next weekend's event in Memphis, Tenn., and, as originally planned, the Chicago event in late September. Grubnic's 6,000-horsepower rail will accompany Kalitta Motorsports' two other Top Fuel entries driven by cousins Doug and Scott Kalitta at all three events.

Red Line Oil president Tim Kerrigan was so impressed by Grubnic's Red Line Oil/Kalitta Motorsports team at Sonoma that it prompted him to continue their partnership. "David and the entire team provided us with unbelievable results at Sonoma, so we're going to run as many races as possible for the rest of the season.

"We need to thank everyone at Kalitta Motorsports and especially Connie Kalitta for providing this sponsorship opportunity. Our employees, customers, and dealers feel that David Grubnic, Doug Kalitta, and Scott Kalitta are great drivers to represent our products."

Red Line Oil also provides associate sponsorship on Doug's Mac Tools dragster and Scott's Mac Tools/Jesse James dragster.

"It's really fantastic that Red Line Oil is going to keep riding with us," Grubnic said. "They are a great group of people and they really enjoy watching us take their name into competition and hopefully doing well. Their support for our whole team and for drag racing is wonderful. I hope we can do as well at all of these other events as we did in Sonoma. We want to get our first win soon so we can put the Red Line Oil dragster in the winner's circle for them."

Grubnic, a journeyman Top Fuel driver, is in his first season behind the wheel of the third Kalitta team car. The Brisbane, Australia native has been driving nitro dragsters in the United States since 1995. He has been No.1 qualifier four times this season at consecutive events in Phoenix and Gainesville and again at consecutive events in Atlanta and Chicago. He has made three final round appearances thus far in 2004 at St. Louis, Seattle, and Sonoma. He is currently fourth in NHRA Top Fuel championship points.

Red Line Synthetic Oil Corporation, based in Benicia, Calif., manufactures over 80 quality products, including motor oils, gear oils, assembly lubes, fuel additives, and its popular WaterWetter cooling additive for the automotive, motorcycle, marine, and industrial markets.
