Smith ready to represent Craftsman, Rhonda excited about night race
St. Louis, pre-race: Building on the momentum of the last two races, John Smith and his wife Rhonda Hartman-Smith have reason to believe that the eighth annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals will be a race to remember. In addition to the improved performance of the Fram AirHog and Prestone Top Fuel dragsters, Sears Craftsman has chosen Smith to fly their colors on his dragster for their title race in Madison, Ill.
"I am really honored that Sears Craftsman has chosen me to represent them," said Smith. "They have always been a major associate sponsor on our Fram AirHog and Prestone dragsters, and we are excited about the chance to promote the Craftsman brand further at their title race."
"We are also looking forward to the night racing at Gateway," said Hartman-Smith. "There is just something about seeing the cars run under the lights with the flames shooting up against the night sky that adds extra excitement to our runs."
John and Rhonda currently sit 13th and 14th in the POWERade NHRA top 10. Although both drivers have finished in the top 10 in the past two years, they are still seeking their first NHRA win.
"Geno Scali won this race last year wearing the Sears Craftsman logo," said Smith. "I know I have big shoes to fill this year, but I believe that with Prestone and Craftsman behind us the Wally can be ours this weekend."
