Vandergriff enters Englishtown eliminations as the fourth quickest
Englishtown, Saturday: - On a day where perspiration and tire smoke ruled supreme, NHRA POWERade Top Fuel driver Bob Vandergriff, Jr., held his ground in the fourth qualifying position as qualifications concluded for the NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ.
Vandergriff failed to improve on his 4.613, 309.70 best from Friday, but that didn't necessarily hurt the feelings of the Haldex Group-sponsored driver. Very few teams did improve on this day.
On both attempts, Vandergriff smoked the tires and aborted his runs.
The day was disappointing for Vandergriff, but its most positive aspect is that it showed both he and crew chief Rob Flynn what direction they should take for Sunday's final eliminations.
"We were looking for a baseline for Sunday because we felt pretty comfortable in the show," explained Vandergriff. "I think we have a good idea of where we want to go on Sunday. We'll give it our best shot and let the chips fall where they may.
