Funny Car

Results for Elimination Round 1
BAYTOWN, Texas - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 17th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil:

Current weather conditions: 70 degrees, 74 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.24 inches, adjusted altitude 709 feet, with a track temperature of 103 degrees.

Wilkerson has a four to two advantage over Gilbertson in head to head match-ups. Gilbertson won this event in 2000 from the number 16 spot.

Gilbertson was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Wilkerson launched hard and was straight as arrow for the win. Wilkerson with low E.T. of the event so far.

This is the second straight race that these two have raced in round one. Bazemore won the last time in Vegas, but Worsham has a slight advantage in head to head match-ups, 20-19.

Bazemore with an advantage off the starting line and then starts to loose traction around 300 feet and pedals it once and gets out of the groove. Worsham was able to keep it hooked up all the way down the 1320 for the win.

Burkart is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and then Toliver drops a cylinder on the top end. Toliver takes the win and then the parachute is real late coming out and he goes into the gravel pit at the end of the track.

This is the first time these two have race and this is the 93rd different driver Head has raced in his career.

Densham lost traction around 300 feet and pedaled it one time, but by then Head was ahead of Densham. Head then starts drifting out of the groove and tries to reel it in, but does not and collects the 1000 foot timing cone giving the win to Densham.

This is first time since 1989 that Force has qualified in the bottom half of the field in back to back races.

This was a good drag race with both cars keeping the Goodyears hooked all the way though the quarter mile. This is the best pass of the weekend for Force to take the win.

Force will have lane choice over Toliver in the next round.

Scelzi is out of the gate first and starts to haze the tires, but has a quick pedal job and motors on through for the win. Arend blistered the Goodyears around 300 feet.

Scelzi will give up lane choice to Worsham in the next round.

Cruz won here in 1992 and this is the first time these two have raced and this is 69th different driver Cruz has raced.

Medlen with a starting line advantage and it is a good thing because he need it. Medlen wins this one on a hole-shot by about a half a foot. Both cars were hazing the tires as they crossed the finish line.

Medlen will give up lane choice to Wilkerson in the next round.

Capps holds a 16 to 14 advantage in head to head match-ups. Pedregon is the defending event champion and won here three times.

Pedregon with a big starting line advantage and never looks back. Pedregon with a great looking pass and he will have lane choice against Densham.


       

Funny Car

Wilkerson is out of the gate first and never looked back with another good looking pass. Medlen started to lose traction and was off and on the throttle a couple times.

Worsham with a slight starting line advantage and just drove away from there. Scelzi with his best pass of the weekend was not enough for Worsham.

Worsham will give up lane choice to Wilkerson in the semifinals.

After Staging
Force had problems in between rounds and just made it into the lanes in time for this session. The word is he didn't even have time to warm up the engine. Force with a big starting line advantage, but then has problems right off the starting line. Force lost his engine and pulls it out of the groove and close to the wall. He coast to a stop around half track. There is oil on the track and that will cost Force 10 points. Toliver had to borrow a spare body from Head after going into the gravel pit last round. Toliver started to lose traction around half track and he pedaled it. He then got out of the groove and real close to the wall, but saves it and takes the win light.

Densham with a starting line advantage, Pedregon starts to smoke the tires around 200 feet and then Densham lost traction. From there on it was a pedal battle with tire smoke trailing both of them through the finish line. Densham will have lane choice over Toliver in the semifinals.

       

Funny Car

Densham's engine went silent as soon as he hit the throttle. Toliver wins again, he was hazing the tires from half track on.

This is a great drag race here. Wilkerson with a slight starting line advantage and then Worsham had the lead at 330 feet, half track and 1000 feet before Wilkerson was able to drive back around him for the win. Tim Wilkerson's MOV: 0.0023 seconds (approximately 12 inches).

Wilkerson will have lane choice in the final against Toliver.
