Reports:
Pre-race

RaceGirl's all-volunteer team is enjoying a career best season

Houston, pre-race: When compared to other teams, the RaceGirl Motorsports/Lucas Oil/Mac Tools Top Fuel team is under-funded and out-manned. While the team may be short on crewman and dollars, they are not short on talent and dedication.

This season, the team's dedication has materialized into a Top 10 position in the NHRA POWERade point's standings. The RaceGirl Motorsports Top Fuel team has made a semifinal appearance this season at Gainesville and most recently qualified a strong eighth at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"Our program is improving at every race," said Scott Weis, pilot of The RaceGirl Top Fueler. "It's taken a long time to get here. Our family has been drag racing for over 50 years, starting with my grandfather. I've personally been racing for over 20 years to get to this point. It's great to have ESPN come interview you for NHRA Today. It's even better to put the teams you've admired for years on the trailer early Sunday.

"Our team maybe a bunch of volunteers, we may not have the big budget, but we have every intention of keeping a hold on our Top 10 points position. Our new experimental Attac Race Cars chassis is performing perfectly; our tune-up is catching up too. Our team is getting better every race. We might even get our first NHRA POWERade win this year."

Crew chief Howard Weis comments on the team's ever improving performance.

"I've surprised myself a few times this season," he said. "The new chassis only wants to smoke the tires when I back it down. I think the tuning strategy for our team has changed. When the season started we planned a qualifying strategy around 4.60s. I'm confident we'll be better served by shooting for a low 4.60- 4.50 tune-up. The new chassis likes tons of clutch in the first eighth mile. It just won't go down the track setup soft. That's a problem our team can handle. This new chassis has allowed us to adopt a tune-up similar to that of the Kalitta cars. All our fans are in for a treat; we've got some great runs ahead of us this year."

At the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston the RaceGirl Motorsports Top Fuel team plans to add even more achievements to their ever-growing list of accomplishments.
