SIR to host NHRA's best Summit Series racers

TUCSON, Ariz. - Southwestern International Raceway will host the NHRA Pacific division Summit Racing Series Finals Oct. 10-12, 2003. More than 700 of the best drivers in four classes from NHRA member tracks from across the North Central division will compete for team and individual honors as well as a share of a purse of more than $27,000. Drivers in the High School class will race for trophies.

Winners in the Pro, Sportsman, Street and Motorcycle classes will also earn the opportunity to compete at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. They will run against champions from NHRA's other six divisions for a national title and a $5,000 winner-takes-all payday. Each driver who advances to Pomona will also receive $3,500 for competing in the Finals.

Gates at Southwestern International Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Time trials start at 8 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Race of Champions, a race within a race featuring the No. 1 points earning drivers from each track, is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and eliminations in Pro and Sportsman will start after the final round. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

SUMMIT RACING SERIES PACIFIC DIVISION FINALS: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals, where top drivers from NHRA member tracks across the Pacific division compete in five classes for individual and team honors. Individual champions will advance to a national run-off at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Calif.

WHERE: Southwestern Int'l Dragway, Tucson, Ariz. Track is located 15 miles east of Downtown Tucson. Take Interstate 10 to exit 275 (Houghton Rd.) south and then right on Dawn Road to entrance of the track.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, October 10-12, 2003.

SCHEDULE: Time trials schedule for the Summit Racing Series Pacific Division Finals:

FRIDAY, Oct. 10 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Time trials begin at 8 a.m.

SATURDAY, Oct. 11 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Final time trials run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Race of Champions, a race within a race featuring the top points earning drivers from each track, is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. First round of eliminations in the Pro and Sportsman categories will begin at 2:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, Oct. 12 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations continue at 9:30 a.m.

TICKETS: Spectator admission is $10 each day

PURSE: The Summit E.T. Racing Series competitors in Pro, Sportsman, Street and Motorcycle will compete for cash awards of $27,160. The winners in each category will advance to compete against winners from NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November. They will each receive $3,500 for competing in the Finals and the winner in each class will receive an additional $5,000.

Participants in the High School category compete for trophies.
