Racer Soundoff: Automatic Horsepower Factoring System

6/05/2003

There have been several questions regarding the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System and which data is used in calculating horsepower adjustments. At the beginning of 2003, the NHRA began including all national event final qualifying and elimination runs in the AHFS. Class elimination runs, however, are not included in the AHFS database. While class elimination runs were originally considered, the data system is currently compiled based on the fastest run by competitors in qualifying and final eliminations.

Although there are valid arguments on both sides of this issue, a number of racers feel class elimination runs should be exempt from the AHFS similar to the way class elimination runs are also exempt from breakouts. The NHRA tech department would like further input from Stock and Super Stock racers regarding this issue.

Send your comments on the usage of class eliminations in the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System to racerinput@nhra.com.
