Helmet Bar rule applies to SFI 10.1D Spec

1/22/2003

The NHRA Tech department has fielded numerous questions concerning the SFI 10.1D specification that requires a helmet guard on all vehicles that meet this spec. The specification calls for all first-time certifications to meet these requirements, as well as all SFI 10.1D chassis recertifications.

As a reminder, the 1 x .058-inch round tubing must to be installed all the way around the roll cage at a height approximately halfway between the top of the roll cage and the shoulder hoops, but not to obstruct the driver's vision. This is required for both five- and six-point roll cages. The tubing is to add some lateral support to the entire roll-cage assembly.
