Comp teardowns to continue at future events

4/21/2003

As a reminder to all Comp contestants, the NHRA Technical department will continue the process it has developed this season of removing cylinder heads of random vehicles at the remainder of the 2003 schedule. The procedure, which is similar to that used in Stock and Super Stock, is to verify that the claimed engine size is legitimate.

As noted on page 249 of the 2003 NHRA Rulebook, "It is recommended that the following tolerances be observed by the participant to allow for margin of error during inspection or teardown: Cylinder head or piston volume, 1 percent or 1 cc; deck clearance, .001-inch; overbore, .002-inch."
