Winter's condition improved after Tucson crash

4/2/2003

Veteran Pacific Division racer Larry Winter, 52, continues to show signs of improvement after suffering head injuries in a finish-line crash Sunday evening March 30 at Southwestern Int'l Raceway in Tucson, Ariz.

Doctors at the Tucson Medical Center say that although the Garden Grove, Calif., driver is still not fully conscious, he has strong vital signs and has been responsive to visitors.

Winter's Super Eliminator dragster went out of control and hit the left guardwall at the racetrack during eliminations for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. He was airlifted to TMC where he has continually shown signs of improvement since his arrival.
