SCRIBNER, Neb. - Lee Callaway and Cy Chesterman earned wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car as racing concluded at Nebraska Motorplex's Budweiser Summer Sizzle.
"The car seems to run real good on the division tracks," said Callaway. "I'd like to thank Stacy McLemore, Tom Conway, Chuck Haase, and my crew for all their efforts this weekend."

The 2002 South Central Division champion also broke a string of three consecutive wins by the number one qualifier by earning an event win from the number two qualifying position.
Chesterman of Sioux City, Iowa, became the first Top Alcohol racer to earn two wins within the West Central Division. He has been to the final at all four divisional events and earned his other win at Brainerd Int'l Raceway on June 8.

Saturday Qualifying:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Summer Sizzle lights up night sky
SCRIBNER, Neb. - David Wells and Cy Chesterman will head into eliminations tomorrow as number one qualifiers in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car as time trials and qualifying concluded at Nebraska Motorplex's Budweiser Summer Sizzle.
Wells of Lemars, Iowa, made a 5.684-second, 250.76 mph pass during the first session to place him atop of his class. This was the quickest run of the event until Wells bettered his own time with a 5.613-second, 251.60 mph run during Saturday's third and final qualifying session.
"This is an awful tough track to race and it's all about who negotiates the track the best," said the driver of the Plain Vanilla Blue Bunny Top Alcohol Dragster. "Hopefully, we can do well tomorrow."
Sioux City, Iowa, resident Chesterman posted the quickest time in Top Alcohol Funny Car during Saturday's final session with a 5.840-second, 245.70 mph pass. The Coca-Cola Top Alcohol Funny Car ran low elapsed time during the second and third sessions.
Both Wells and Chesterman were West Central Division champions in their respective classes in 2001 and are looking to add another championship to their racing resume. Each racer is currently in second place in the division, but can possibly take the points lead this weekend.
"We're trying to gain some points and get back in the lead," said Wells. "With Bradshaw out, we should be able to gain ground on him in the points standings."
Parity has been the theme of these two classes that headline NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition in the West Central Division. After three events, the winner's circle has hosted three different winners in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.
A racer's ability to obtain the number one qualifier position has been a key indicator for success in these classes. The number one qualifier at each event thus far has gone on to win the event.
Top qualifiers in other racing categories are Mike Park of Pauls Valley, Okla., in Comp; Bobby Dennis of Shorter, Ala., in Super Stock; and Gary Gokey of Denver in Stock.
Tom Gilligan of Fremont, Neb., will also have a number one seat for Sunday's competition in Sportsman Motorcycle racing of the NHRA Kerker Motorcycle Series.
Gates open for the final day of racing at the Budweiser Summer Sizzle at 7 a.m., with eliminations scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The first round of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is scheduled for noon. Tickets are $20 for Sunday and children 12 and under will be admitted for free with the accompany of a paid adult. Nebraska Motorplex will also allow free admittance to all military personnel with valid identification.

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series set to heat up Motorplex
SCRIBNER, Neb. - Nebraska Motorplex will host the Budweiser Summer Sizzle, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Aug. 8-10. The event is the fourth of six in NHRA West Central Division competition. Drivers in eight categories, including 260 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, are competing for points leading to divisional and national championships. The division's Kerker Motorcycle Series, featuring the Sportsman Motorcycle class, will also run in conjunction with the event.
So far, there have been no repeat winners in any of the eight Lucas Oil categories although Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Cy Chesterman has been the all three final rounds.
Chesterman, a resident of Sioux City, Iowa, was runner-up at the division's season opener in Topeka, Kan., won the next race in Brainerd, Minn., and made a final-round appearance in Denver. Chesterman, however, is in second place in the division TAFC point standings behind Kirk Williams, the defending division champion out of Glenwood, Iowa. Williams was runner-up to Chesterman in Brainerd and beat him in the final-round in Denver.
In Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) defending division champion Alan Bradshaw is leading the points. The Channelview, Texas, racer took the win in Topeka as well as an out-of-division victory in Dallas. Just behind Bradshaw is David Wells of Lemars, Iowa. Wells is a former division champ who won an out-of-division event in Joliet, Ill., and scored runner-up points in Brainerd.
In the Comp Eliminator and Super Gas classes, only three points separate first and second place. Comp Eliminator racer Clint Sallee of Glendive, Mont., leads Doug Engles of Watertown, S.D. Each racer has a win to his credit. Sallee took the stripe in Topeka and Engles won in Brainerd. In Super Gas, Michael Miller of Santa Fe, N.M., has a runner-up finish in an out-of-division race in Tucson, Ariz., and is hot on the heels of Greg Carillo of Phoenix.
Starting in Scribner, NHRA West Central division racers will run the final three races of the season in four weeks. That means that it could be a close battle for the division crown in all classes and racers will have to be on top of their game to earn the title.
