Mac Tools U.S. Nationals rescheduled due to rain and gloomy forecast
9/1/2003
Persistent rain showers Sunday and a gloomy forecast for several days forced NHRA officials to postpone the conclusion of the 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals until Sept. 5-7.
Racing will resume Friday, Sept. 5, with Sportsman time trials and one Professional qualifying session. Two Pro sessions will be run Saturday, Sept. 6, along with the Budweiser Shootout for Funny Cars. Final eliminations will take place Sunday, Sept. 7. Tickets from the original Friday session, which was also rained-out, will be honored this coming Friday. Tickets for Aug. 31's racing will be honored Sept. 6 while tickets for Sept. 1 will be honored Sept. 7.
National DRAGSTER will not operate a Membership Hospitality Center or hold a drawing for VIP Member of the Event at the U.S. Nationals re-run. However, all other membership benefits will still be available, such as the 10% savings on NHRA merchandise at MainGate's Nitro Mall and other souvenir trailers. Member admission-discount coupons will also continue to be accepted at the ticket window. (MainGate discount requires a $10 minimum purchase; discount not valid on driver souvenirs.)
Because Super Stock did not begin eliminations, the field will now be all-run, with any driver who participated in qualifying eligible to take part in a random-pairing first round.
