NHRA founder Wally Parks was awarded the Dean Batchelor Lifetime Achievement Award in a surprise presentation Dec. 2 at the Motor Press Guild's annual banquet, held at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
Parks was at the ceremony to support Robert Genat, for whose book, The Birth of Hot Rodding, Parks had written the foreword. The book won the prized Dean Batchelor Award, given annually in recognition of outstanding current achievements by automotive writers, photographers, and broadcasters.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to individuals on a case-by-case basis for outstanding contributions to the automotive industry. Former winners include photographer Jesse Alexander and Shav Glick of the Los Angeles Times.
Batchelor is a former editor of Hop Up and Road & Track magazines and author of many automotive books.
