John Force 'CHiPs For Kids' Holiday Car Show on Sunday
12/4/2003

Amid the massive expansion of his Yorba Linda, Calif., shop facility and the unsettled future of his Castrol-backed race team, drag racing's most prolific winner takes time out this Sunday to play host to the John Force Holiday Car Show benefiting the California Highway Patrol's "CHiPs for Kids" Christmas toy drive.
More than 500 street rods, muscle cars, antique and classic cars, motorcycles, custom trucks, racecars, and specialty vehicles will be on display at John Force Racing, Inc., during the one-day holiday spectacular which, as usual, will feature prominent racing personalities.
In addition to Force, drag racing's biggest winner and 12-time NHRA POWERade Series Champion, the celebrity lineup also will include Gary Densham, Gary Scelzi, Ron Capps, Cory McClenathan, Del Worsham, Jerry Toliver, Tom "the Mongoose" McEwen, the four John Force Racing crew chiefs, and other surprise guests.
In addition to the car show, scheduled autograph sessions and abbreviated tours of the John Force Racing facility that houses the three quickest Funny Cars in the world, guests can listen to live '50s and '60s music and browse through the John Force RaceStation Store featuring the latest in diecasts, apparel, art, videos, and other souvenirs and collectibles.
Food vendors will be set up for the duration of the event, which runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Spectator admission is the donation of a new, unwrapped $10 toy to the "CHiPs for Kids" drive. California Highway Patrol officers will be on site to collect the toys for later distribution to kids who otherwise might not have a present under their Christmas tree.
With the year-end defection of Tony Pedregon, who secured JFR's 11th consecutive NHRA Funny Car Championship (and 13th in 14 seasons), Force has been interviewing driver candidates for two of his Ford Funny Cars while also contemplating a further expansion of the team contingent upon the acquisition of funding.
The 109-time tour winner also has been busy working with his daughter Ashley, who will move up next season from the Super Comp class, in which she competed the last two seasons, to the Top Alcohol Dragster class in which she will drive the Darien & Meadows A/Fuel dragster. Force expects to announce a major sponsor for that team at the season-opening K&N Filters Winternationals at Pomona, Calif.
The current shop expansion project ultimately will provide Force with the luxury of displaying all of his racecars and items from his museum in a less cramped environment while at the same time providing much needed expansion to accommodate new machine tool equipment from Fadal and Giddings and Lewis.
It is one of two ongoing construction projects undertaken by drag racing's most successful team. The other is the build-up of a 40,000 square foot satellite shop facility in Brownsburg, Ind., just down the highway from Indianapolis Raceway Park, home of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
John Force Racing is located off the 91 Freeway at the Weir Canyon/Yorba Linda Boulevard Exit. Turn right on Savi Ranch road, right on Mirage and then follow the signs for parking. For further information, call 714-254-7775.
