Romine pleased with his first full season of NHRA competition
Pomona, pre-race: This weekend at 39th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, the final of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Paul Romine will conclude his first complete NHRA season. In a season of highs and lows, Romine is finishing the year with the CARQUEST Auto Parts dragster running stronger than ever.
"I've had a roller coaster season, but enjoyed my first full year of NHRA competition," said Romine, who has won three championships in IHRA. "NHRA racing is challenging, but right now the Carrier Boyz team is giving me the most competitive NHRA car I've ever driven and I'm having the time of my life with a great team."
Although Romine will not reach his goal of a Top 10 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series finish, he is still pleased with the way his season has gone with the CARQUEST-sponsored Top Fuel dragster.
"I knew this season would be a learning experience, competing in 23 NHRA national events and I expected to be more competitive, but overall I'm happy with year I've had," said Romine, who has established himself as one of the best reaction time drivers in Top Fuel and in the last month has recorded personal best elapsed time and speed records of 4.524-seconds at 321.12 mph. "Jimmy (Walsh, crew chief) has the car running well and we want to end the season at Pomona showing everyone what we're made of."
